Discovering that Madame Nielsen’s cenotaph was planned for demolition, we found a place 1 kilometer away, ready to host it.
Displacement as an excuse for transformation: understanding the weight and strength of architecture by moving a building with our bodies, the workshop oscillated between a celebratory procession and a painful Sisyphus re-enactment. It moved by 1mm on the first day, one centimeter on the second, a meter on the third, 10m on the fourth, and finally the whole kilometer on the final day. A big chunk rolled unsteadily along the road whilst the large curved wall, tilted onto the surface of the water, drifted across Holmen’s canal, propelled by the combined force of our swimming whilst Madame Nielsen stood on it. Like Aguirre on the Amazon river, not quite so sure anymore if this would lead her to the promised Eldorado.
